Description

Thermocouples are the most widely used temperature sensors in heavy industry, thanks to their wide measuring range, fast response and mechanical robustness. Hamoon supplies complete industrial assemblies that combine the sensing element with a protective sheath or thermowell, a connection head and an optional head-mounted transmitter, ready for installation. Base-metal types J, K and N cover most process applications, while noble-metal types R, S and B, fitted with ceramic protection tubes, are used for very high temperatures in industrial furnaces and kilns.

Mineral-insulated (MI) cable construction offers excellent vibration resistance and flexibility, and RTD assemblies are available alongside thermocouples where higher accuracy at moderate temperatures is required. Sheath materials include SS316, Inconel 600 and ceramic, with threaded, flanged or weld-in thermowells and aluminium or stainless-steel connection heads, including explosion-proof versions.

Typical applications

  • Furnaces, fired heaters and reformers in refineries and petrochemical plants
  • Cement kilns, coolers and preheaters
  • Steel reheating furnaces, ladles and heat treatment
  • Boiler flue gas and superheater temperatures in power plants

Key points when selecting a Industrial Thermocouples & RTD Assemblies

  • Pick the type by maximum temperature: K and N up to about 1200 °C, types R/S/B for higher temperatures.
  • Set sheath diameter and immersion length so the sensor fully sees the process temperature.
  • At high pressure or velocity, use a thermowell with a wake-frequency calculation (ASME PTC 19.3 TW).
  • Use the correct extension/compensating cable for the thermocouple type.

Industrial Thermocouples & RTD Assemblies — frequently asked questions

Is a thermocouple or a PT100 better?

A PT100 is more accurate and stable below about 500 °C; a thermocouple covers a wider range and is better for furnaces and high temperatures.

What is the benefit of a mineral-insulated (MI) thermocouple?

Compacted magnesium-oxide insulation in a metal sheath gives high mechanical strength, bendability and fast response.
