Description

Electromagnetic flowmeters operate on Faraday's law of induction: a conductive liquid flowing through a magnetic field generates a voltage proportional to its velocity. With a full-bore measuring tube and no moving parts or obstructions, magmeters cause no pressure loss, are virtually maintenance-free and provide excellent accuracy and repeatability across a wide flow range. Hamoon supplies magmeters from leading international manufacturers in sizes from a few millimetres up to large water-transmission diameters.

Liner options include PTFE, PFA, hard rubber and polyurethane, with electrodes in SS316L, Hastelloy C, titanium, tantalum or platinum to match abrasive or corrosive media. Compact or remote transmitters offer 4–20 mA HART, pulse/frequency and fieldbus outputs, while advanced models provide empty-pipe detection, electrode diagnostics and in-situ verification.

Typical applications

  • Water and wastewater treatment and distribution
  • Cooling water and raw water in power and steel plants
  • Slurry and pulp in mining and mineral processing
  • Acids, alkalis and chemical dosing in petrochemical plants

Key points when selecting a Electromagnetic Flowmeter (Magmeter)

  • Make sure the fluid conductivity is at least 5 µS/cm; magmeters are not suitable for hydrocarbons or gases.
  • Select liner (PTFE, PFA, hard rubber, polyurethane) and electrodes for the fluid's corrosiveness and abrasiveness.
  • Size the meter so the flow velocity is roughly 1–5 m/s.
  • Respect straight-run requirements and ensure the pipe is always full.

Electromagnetic Flowmeter (Magmeter) — frequently asked questions

Does an electromagnetic flowmeter cause pressure drop?

No. The measuring tube is fully open with no moving parts or obstructions in the flow path.

Which fluids suit an electromagnetic flowmeter?

Water, wastewater, slurries, acids, alkalis and any conductive liquid; oil, demineralised water and gas need another technology such as Coriolis or ultrasonic.
