Description

Early detection is the key to effective fire protection. Optical smoke detectors use a light source and a photodiode inside a dark labyrinth chamber; when smoke particles enter the chamber, they scatter light onto the sensor and trigger an alarm. This principle is particularly sensitive to the slow, smouldering fires typical of cable insulation, furnishings and electrical equipment, giving occupants valuable extra time to respond.

Hamoon supplies smoke detectors from leading fire safety manufacturers in conventional versions for zone-based panels and addressable versions that report their exact location and status to an intelligent control panel. Multi-sensor models combining optical and heat sensing reduce false alarms in demanding environments. Detectors are certified to EN 54-7 and are supplied with matching bases, remote indicators and test equipment. Note that conventional and addressable detectors must match the protocol of the fire alarm panel.

Typical applications

  • Control rooms, electrical rooms and battery rooms
  • Offices, corridors and accommodation buildings
  • Warehouses and production halls
  • Hospitals, hotels and commercial buildings

Hamoon can supply complete fire detection systems, including panels and peripherals. Request a technical consultation and a quote.

Key points when selecting a Optical Smoke Detector

  • Conventional or addressable detectors must match the fire alarm panel.
  • Lay out spacing per NFPA 72 or BS 5839.
  • Use heat detectors instead in kitchens or dusty areas.
  • Test and clean detectors yearly to reduce false alarms.

Optical Smoke Detector — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between conventional and addressable systems?

Conventional systems identify the zone; addressable systems show the exact detector that activated.

How often should smoke detectors be replaced?

Typically every 10 years or as advised by the manufacturer, as the optical chamber loses sensitivity.
