Description

Heat detectors respond to temperature rather than smoke, which makes them the right choice in environments where dust, steam, exhaust fumes or cooking vapours would cause smoke detectors to generate false alarms. Fixed-temperature detectors trigger when the ambient air reaches a set threshold, typically 57 °C or higher, while rate-of-rise detectors respond to a rapid increase in temperature and detect fast-developing fires earlier. Combined detectors offer the benefits of both principles in a single device.

Hamoon supplies heat detectors from leading fire safety manufacturers in conventional and addressable versions, certified to EN 54-5 in classes A1, A1R, B, BS and others to suit different ambient temperatures. Electronic thermistor-based detectors offer precise and stable response, and high-temperature classes are available for boiler rooms and kitchens. Explosion-proof versions can be supplied for hazardous areas.

Typical applications

  • Kitchens, boiler rooms and generator rooms
  • Car parks and loading bays
  • Dusty production areas and workshops
  • Laundries and areas with steam

Key points when selecting a Rate-of-Rise & Fixed Temperature Heat Detector

  • Fixed-temperature detectors suit areas with rapid temperature swings (kitchens, boiler rooms).
  • Rate-of-rise detectors catch fast-growing fires earlier.
  • Choose an operating temperature at least 20 °C above maximum ambient.
  • Check compatibility with the fire panel and detector base.

Rate-of-Rise & Fixed Temperature Heat Detector — frequently asked questions

Where is a heat detector better than a smoke detector?

Where normal smoke, steam or dust would cause false alarms — kitchens, car parks and workshops.

How does a rate-of-rise detector work?

It alarms when temperature rises faster than a set rate (about 8–10 °C per minute), even before the fixed threshold.
