Description

Guided wave radar (GWR) is one of the most reliable technologies for continuous level measurement. Low-power microwave pulses travel down a rod, cable or coaxial probe and are reflected at the product surface; the transmitter calculates the level from the time of flight. Because the measurement does not depend on density, viscosity, pressure or temperature, GWR transmitters deliver stable readings where other technologies struggle, including vapour, foam, turbulence and narrow stilling wells.

Hamoon supplies GWR level transmitters from leading manufacturers with single-rod, twin-rod, cable and coaxial probes, process seals for high pressure and high temperature, and the ability to measure both total level and interface in a single instrument. Smart echo-curve diagnostics, HART communication and SIL-capable versions with ATEX/IECEx approvals make them a strong choice for critical process vessels.

Typical applications

  • Separator and knock-out drum level and interface in oil and gas
  • Storage tanks, day tanks and chemical vessels
  • Boiler drums, feedwater heaters and condensers in power plants
  • Bypass chambers and replacement of displacer transmitters
  • Silos for powders and granules (cable probe)

Key points when selecting a Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter

  • Choose a single-rod, twin-rod, cable or coaxial probe based on vessel height, medium and internal obstructions.
  • For interface measurement, provide the dielectric constant of both phases.
  • High pressure and temperature require a special HTHP process seal.
  • When replacing displacers, installing in the existing bypass chamber is usually simplest.

Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter — frequently asked questions

What are the advantages of guided wave radar over non-contact radar?

In GWR the pulse is guided along a probe, giving more stable readings in small vessels, stilling wells, with foam or vapour and for interface measurement.

Does fluid density affect GWR accuracy?

No. The measurement is based on time of flight and is independent of density, pressure and temperature.
